About Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain / Laser Buddha)

Khao Chi Chan, widely known as Buddha Mountain or the Laser Buddha, is a vast image of the seated Buddha cut into the face of a limestone cliff near Sattahip, about 25 minutes south of central Pattaya. The figure stands roughly 130 metres tall and was etched into the rock and finished in gold leaf in the 1990s to mark the 50th anniversary of the king's reign.

A landscaped park with a reflecting lake sits in front of the cliff, giving the most photographed view of the entire figure mirrored in the water. The grounds are open, easy to walk and free to enter, making it a popular half-day stop on the way to or from Nong Nooch and other attractions further south.

Because it is a religious monument rather than a working temple, there are no shrine buildings to enter, but visitors are still asked to dress and behave respectfully. Early morning is the most comfortable time to visit, before the midday heat and tour-bus crowds arrive.
