Pattaya gets an unfair reputation, but on one thing there's no argument: the sunset is genuinely world-class. Because the city faces west across the Gulf of Thailand, the sun drops straight into the sea most of the year, and the curve of the bay means almost every high rooftop gets a clean, uninterrupted view of it. After seven years living here and far too many golden-hour drinks "for research," these are the rooftop bars I actually send friends to.
This is a ranked, honest list of the best rooftop bars in Pattaya for sunset - what the view is really like, the vibe, what you'll pay in 2026 Thai baht, and which ones are worth the trip versus which are coasting on a nice photo. If you want the wider nightlife picture, pair this with our eat & drink guide.
How we picked
I drink on these rooftops - repeatedly, as a paying customer, never on a comped invite. Every venue here was visited at golden hour within the last year, and I went back to the top picks more than once to check whether a good night was a fluke. Ranking weighed four things: the actual sunset view (how clean, how high, how much sky and sea), the vibe (relaxed, romantic or party), value (does the drink price match the experience), and practicality (can you get a seat, is the music bearable, is the staff friendly).
I deliberately mixed price tiers. Some of Pattaya's best sunset spots are luxury hotel sky bars on Beach Road; others are scruffy, brilliant cliff-edge restaurants on Pratumnak Hill where a Chang costs a fraction of the hotel price and the view is arguably better. Both belong on a real list.
No pay-to-play
Nobody pays to appear on this list. Every rooftop was visited and paid for at full price, and prices below were checked at the bar in 2026 - the same standard we hold across every trip-planning guide. If a famous name isn't here, it's because the view or the value didn't earn it.
Our top 3 for sunset
If you only have one or two evenings, start here. These three cover the three reasons people go up: the cleanest view, the best value with a sea view, and the best party-with-a-view.
The 15 best rooftop bars in Pattaya
Ranked top to bottom on the balance of view, vibe and value. Heights are approximate, prices are 2026 bar prices, and "sunset side" tells you whether the view actually faces west over the Gulf.
1. Horizon Rooftop Bar - Hilton Pattaya (Central)
The benchmark. On the 34th floor above Central Festival on Beach Road, Horizon has the highest clean sea view in central Pattaya, looking straight down the bay to Koh Larn. Cocktails run ฿380–520 and there's no entry fee, though it gets busy - arrive by 5:15pm in cool season for a rail seat. Smart-casual; flip-flops are fine but vest tops get the side-eye.
2. Sky Gallery - Pratumnak Hill
My personal favourite for value. It's not a tower - it's an open-air restaurant terraced down a cliff right above the water on Pratumnak, so the Gulf fills your whole view at eye level. Mains are ฿250–600, beers from ฿120, and there's no cover. Book a front table for sunset; walk-ins land on the upper deck.
3. The Sky Pattaya - near Walking Street (South)
The party pick. A glass-walled rooftop on the South Pattaya side near Walking Street, with DJ sets later on and a young, loud crowd. Cocktails ฿250–390, beers around ฿140. Come for sunset, stay for the energy, then drop straight into Walking Street a few minutes away.
4. Drift Bar - Avani Pattaya Resort (Central)
A poolside-meets-rooftop bar with a tidy, low-key Beach Road sunset. Less dramatic than Horizon but more relaxed and rarely crowded. Cocktails ฿320–450. Good for a quiet couple's drink rather than a scene.
5. Rimpa Lapin - Pratumnak Hill
A Pattaya institution. A huge open-air clifftop restaurant on Pratumnak with one of the most romantic sunset settings in the city - tiered tables, the sea below, the lights of the bay coming on. It's a restaurant first (mains ฿200–650), so book ahead for a front-row table at golden hour.
6. The Roof Sky Bar - Siam@Siam (Central)
Around the 24th floor of the Siam@Siam design hotel, with a sleek, design-led feel and a solid city-and-sea view. Cocktails ฿300–420. A good middle option between hotel polish and the cliff bars.
7. Skylette Lounge - Wong Amat / Naklua
Up in the quieter north end above Wong Amat Beach, this lounge gives you the Naklua coastline and a calmer, more grown-up crowd than the centre. Cocktails ฿340–480. Worth it if you're staying north and don't want the Beach Road crush.
8. Edge Rooftop - Hilton Pattaya (Central)
Horizon's slightly lower sibling lounge in the same hotel, with the same bay view from a comfortable seated setting. Pricing sits with Horizon at ฿380–520 for cocktails. Pick this if Horizon's rail is full.
9. Sky Beach - Central Beach Road
A breezy, mid-height beach-road rooftop that's more about an easy sundowner than a knockout view. Beers from ฿130, cocktails ฿260–360. Reliable, unfussy, central.
10. Pinnacle Lounge - Jomtien
One of the better high options in Jomtien, looking back along the long Jomtien beachfront. Quieter and cheaper than the centre, with cocktails around ฿280–400. Great if you're based south.
11. Mata Bar - Pratumnak
A smaller, more intimate rooftop near the Pratumnak viewpoint area, popular for sunset photos. Beers from ฿110, simple cocktails ฿200–320. Limited seats, so come early.
12. Cape Dara Rooftop - Naklua
The rooftop at the Cape Dara Resort on the northern headland, with a wide sweep across Naklua and Wong Amat. Smarter, resort-priced (cocktails ฿350–500) and pleasantly quiet on weeknights.
13. The Bay Rooftop - Central
A dependable central rooftop bar good for groups and after-work drinks rather than a romantic sunset. Beers from ฿120, cocktails ฿250–360. View is fine, not spectacular.
14. Sundown Social - South Pattaya
A casual lower rooftop with a friendly, mixed crowd and a partial sea view through the buildings. Cheap and cheerful - beers from ฿100, cocktails ฿200–300. More about the hang than the horizon.
15. Vue Rooftop - Jomtien
A small Jomtien-side rooftop that rounds out the list for southern stays. Modest view, relaxed vibe, cocktails around ฿240–340. Worth knowing about if you're nearby, not worth a special trip across town.
What a rooftop night costs
Pattaya rooftops span a wide price range, and the gap is real: a hotel sky bar will cost roughly double a Pratumnak cliff restaurant for the same two drinks. Here's what to budget per person for sunset and a couple of rounds, in 2026 baht.
Horizon, Edge, Cape Dara. Polished, highest views, no cover but premium drinks.
Sky Gallery, Rimpa Lapin. Best value sea view; you're paying for food too.
The Sky Pattaya. DJ nights, louder, occasional minimum-spend on big events.
Mata, Sundown Social, Jomtien spots. Beers from ฿100–130, simpler cocktails.
| Rooftop | Area | Cocktail | View |
|---|---|---|---|

Best rooftops by area
Where you're staying should decide where you drink - Pattaya's rooftops are spread across four distinct zones, and a ฿200 songthaew-ride away can mean a completely different crowd and view.
Local tip
The Pratumnak cliff bars are the locals' secret: the same Gulf sunset as the hotel towers, at half the drink price, with food worth eating. If you only do one rooftop, make it Sky Gallery or Rimpa Lapin - just book a front table, because the rail fills before the sun drops.
When to go for the best sunset
Timing matters more than people think. Sunset in Pattaya falls roughly between 6:15pm and 6:35pm year-round (a touch earlier in December, later in June), so aim to be seated by 5:15–5:30pm to claim a west-facing rail table, especially at the popular spots. The 45 minutes after the sun drops - the "blue hour" - is often the prettiest, when the bay lights up.
The clearest skies are in the cool, dry season from November to February; the rainy months of May to October can still deliver dramatic sunsets between showers, but you'll want a rooftop with cover. For the wider seasonal picture, see our best time to visit Go To Pattaya. Weeknights are far easier for a good table than Friday or Saturday.
What to watch out for
Most Pattaya rooftops are honest, but a few things catch visitors out. Check whether a venue has a minimum spend on event nights - the party rooftops sometimes add one for DJ sets. Watch your bill for a service charge plus VAT (often around 10% + 7%) at hotel sky bars, which can quietly add a fifth to your tab. And be wary of any tout on Beach Road offering to "take you to the best rooftop" - go directly to the venues here instead.
Avoid this
Don't pay a cover charge to a street promoter for rooftop "access" - the genuinely good rooftops on this list either have no entry fee or charge it at the bar. If a venue won't show you a drinks menu with prices before you sit down, leave. And keep an eye on your tab on busy nights; mistakes happen more when it's slammed.
