If you only have 30 seconds

Do three big things in Pattaya and you've nailed it: a Koh Larn (Coral Island) day trip from Bali Hai Pier, an evening at the Sanctuary of Truth or a Tiffany/Alcazar cabaret, and a beach-plus-water-sports day on Jomtien. Add the Big Buddha on Pratumnak Hill and a night market for atmosphere. Budget roughly ฿1,500–3,000 per person per day with activities, and get around on the ฿10–20 songthaew.

How we picked

Pattaya city beach 1 in Pattaya, Thailand
Pattaya City Beach 1 · What Are the BestThings to Doin Pattaya?

There are hundreds of "things to do in Pattaya" lists online, and most are reheated rankings padded with attractions nobody actually visits. This guide is the opposite. Every entry below has been done by our editors as ordinary paying visitors, judged on genuine appeal, value for the price, how easy it is to reach, and whether it suits the traveller it's aimed at - then cross-checked against months of reader feedback.

We've kept the headline list to six experiences that cover the occasions people really plan a Pattaya trip around: an island day, an iconic attraction, a show, water sports, a temple, and a night out. After that you'll find a by-interest grid, a costs breakdown, and a tested three-day plan so you can turn this into an actual itinerary rather than a bucket list.

No pay-to-play

Attractions and tour operators can't buy a place on this list. Rankings reflect editor visits and verified reader reviews only - the same standard we hold across every Things to Do guide.

Koh Larn (Coral Island)

4.7 Most-booked trip 7 km offshore, Bali Hai Pier

The single best day out from Pattaya. A 30-minute public ferry (฿30 each way) drops you on an island with genuinely clear water and white-sand beaches - Tawaen for facilities and water sports, Tien and Samae for something quieter. Add a longtail or beach club and it's the highlight of most trips. See our full Koh Larn day-trip guide for the timings.

Sanctuary of Truth

4.6 Pattaya's signature sight Naklua, North Pattaya

A 105-metre temple built entirely from teak and hardwood, carved with thousands of figures and still under construction by hand. It's Pattaya's most photogenic and most surprising attraction - a complete contrast to the beach strip. Allow 90 minutes; read our verdict in the Sanctuary of Truth guide.

Tiffany Show / Alcazar

4.5 World-famous cabaret North Pattaya

Pattaya invented the big Thai cabaret, and the two giants - Tiffany's and Alcazar - still put on a polished hour of music, costumes and dance you won't see anywhere else. It's family-friendly, fully air-conditioned, and a perfect early-evening activity before dinner. Our full take is in the Tiffany Show guide.

Water sports on the bay

4.2 Parasailing, jet ski, banana boat Pattaya & Jomtien beaches

Few cities make it this easy to parasail over the bay or open up a jet ski. You'll find operators along Pattaya Beach and on Koh Larn, plus calmer banana-boat rides for kids. Prices are negotiable and safety standards vary, so agree everything before you pay - full details in the water sports guide.

Big Buddha, Pratumnak Hill

4.5 Wat Phra Yai Pratumnak Hill

An 18-metre golden Buddha sits atop Pratumnak Hill, reached by a short staircase flanked by guardian dragons. Entry is free, the views over Pattaya Bay are the best in town, and the nearby Pratumnak viewpoint is a perfect sunset stop. Pair it with the quiet Cosy Beach below for an easy half-day.

Walking Street & night markets

4.0 Pattaya's famous strip South Pattaya

Love it or skip it, Walking Street is the city's neon heart - a pedestrian strip of bars, clubs and live music that comes alive after 21:00. For something tamer, the Thepprasit and Pattaya night markets serve street food, cheap clothes and a far more local crowd. Both are free to wander; spend only what you choose.

Sanctuary of Truth by day, the Pratumnak viewpoint at sunset, then a cabaret and beachfront dinner.

Adventure
Diving & water sports

Scuba and snorkel trips to Koh Sak and Koh Phai, plus parasailing and jet ski off the main beach.

Watch (or train) Muay Thai at a local gym, or book an ATV jungle tour in the hills behind the city.

Sanctuary of Truth, the Big Buddha, the Thai Thani culture village and the floating market.

Where to base yourself in Pattaya

Pattaya changes character every couple of kilometres. Pick the area that matches your trip and most things to do are a short, cheap songthaew ride away.

Central Pattaya
The all-in-one base. Walkable to Beach Road, Terminal 21, Central Festival and the songthaew loop. Busiest and most convenient - best if you want everything on your doorstep.
Jomtien
Calmer beach, family-friendly. A longer, quieter stretch of sand with shallower water, cheaper food and an easy pace. The pick for families and anyone who finds central Pattaya too hectic.
Pratumnak Hill
Quiet, scenic, central-ish. Home to the Big Buddha, Cosy Beach and the best viewpoints, sitting between Central and Jomtien. Great for couples who want calm but quick access to both.
Wong Amat / Naklua
Upscale and laid-back. The north end has nicer resorts, the lovely Wong Amat Beach and the Sanctuary of Truth nearby. Best for a relaxed, slightly more refined stay.

What things to do in Pattaya cost

Pattaya is one of Thailand's best-value city breaks - you can do a packed day for the price of a single attraction back home. A rough per-person guide for 2026:

Getting around
฿10–20

A songthaew hop along Beach Road or Second Road. Scooter rental runs ฿200–300 per day.

Koh Larn day
฿60–1,500

฿60 return on the public ferry, or a full speedboat island tour with lunch nearer ฿1,000–1,500.

Attraction / show
฿650–1,200

Sanctuary of Truth ฿650; a Tiffany or Alcazar cabaret ฿800–1,200 per seat.

A full day, all-in
฿1,500–3,000

Realistic per-person daily budget with one paid activity, transport, meals and a few drinks.

A perfect 3-day Pattaya plan

If you only have a long weekend, this tested sequence hits the highlights without rushing. Adjust the order around the weather and ferry times.

Day 1 · Island
Koh Larn day trip. Catch an early ferry from Bali Hai Pier, claim a spot on Tawaen or Tien Beach, swim, snorkel and try a water sport, then head back for a beachfront dinner.
Day 2 · Culture
Sanctuary & cabaret. Sanctuary of Truth in the morning, lunch in Naklua, the Big Buddha and Pratumnak viewpoint at sunset, then an early-evening Tiffany or Alcazar show.
Day 3 · Beach & chill
Jomtien at an easy pace. A slow morning on Jomtien Beach, a Thai massage, browse the Thepprasit market, and finish with Walking Street or a quieter rooftop bar - your call.

Local tips & what to avoid

A few habits separate a smooth Pattaya trip from an over-paid one. None of this is hard - it's just what regulars do automatically.

Watch the jet-ski "damage" scam

The classic Pattaya scam is being charged thousands of baht for "damage" you didn't cause to a rented jet ski. Always film a full walk-around video before you ride, agree the price in writing, and rent from a hotel or established operator rather than a beach tout.

Use the songthaew and walk one street back

The baht-bus is a flat ฿10–20 along the main routes - just press the buzzer to get off. And the oldest trick still works: walk one block off Beach Road and food, drinks and even tours cost noticeably less than on the tourist strip.

Time it around the seasons

November to February is the cool, dry sweet spot with calm seas for island trips. The rainy season (roughly June–October) is cheaper and still warm, but ferries to Koh Larn can be cancelled in rough weather - keep island days flexible and check the forecast.

Bottom line: Pattaya rewards a little planning. Lock in one island day, one cultural day and one beach day, get around on the songthaew, and you'll see the best of the city for a fraction of what the same trip costs elsewhere in Thailand. Start with our full Things to Do hub or jump straight to the Koh Larn guide.

Frequently asked questions

Pattaya is best known for its beaches, nearby islands like Koh Larn (Coral Island), water sports, and a famously lively nightlife on Walking Street. Beyond the party reputation it also has serious attractions: the all-wooden Sanctuary of Truth, the Tiffany and Alcazar cabaret shows, the Big Buddha on Pratumnak Hill, and family parks like Nong Nooch Tropical Garden.
Three days is the sweet spot: one for a Koh Larn island day trip, one for beaches and water sports, and one for culture and shows (Sanctuary of Truth plus a cabaret). Two days works if you focus, while four or five lets you add Nong Nooch, a floating market, and a day in Jomtien at an easier pace.
Plenty. Walking Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach, watching sunset from Pratumnak viewpoint, visiting the Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, browsing Thepprasit and Pattaya night markets, and exploring Walking Street after dark all cost nothing but your time. Bus 8 (the songthaew) along Beach Road is only ฿10–20 a ride.
Families love Koh Larn for calm swimming beaches, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, the Cartoon Network Amazone water park, Underwater World aquarium and the Sanctuary of Truth grounds. Jomtien Beach is calmer and shallower than the main Pattaya Beach, making it the easier choice for younger children.
Yes - Pattaya remains one of the best-value beach-city breaks in Thailand. You can island-hop, dive, see world-class cabaret and eat brilliantly for far less than Phuket or Bangkok, and the city is only about 90–120 minutes by car from Bangkok's airports. Skip it only if you want untouched, quiet beaches.
The cheapest way is the songthaew (baht-bus) - hop on along Beach Road or Second Road and pay ฿10–20 for short hops. For longer trips use Grab or Bolt ride-hailing apps, or rent a scooter for around ฿200–300 a day. Always agree a price before taking a metered-looking taxi or tuk-tuk off the strip.
