How we picked
Pattaya is a serious Muay Thai town - fighters from all over the world come here to train - and that means everything from elite fighter camps to laid-back fitness classes. We judged gyms on coaching quality, range of classes, facilities, atmosphere, value and how well they handle beginners alongside experienced trainees. A great Muay Thai gym should challenge a fighter and welcome someone who's never wrapped their hands.
I've trained at camps across Thailand and dropped in to sessions at the gyms below as a paying student. There's no pay-to-play here. The "best" gym genuinely depends on your goal: fitness, technique, a fight camp, or just trying something authentic on holiday. Each card tells you exactly who it suits.

Ideal if you've trained a little and want focused coaching, or simply prefer a calmer setting away from the busiest camps.

Best by level & goal
Pick the camp that matches what you actually want from training. Here's the short version, mapped to your goal.
Welcoming, structured classes where trainers teach the basics with zero intimidation.
Pro coaching, two sessions a day and a real fighter pathway for fast improvement.
On-site accommodation and structured camps to fully immerse for weeks or months.
Authentic local training at the lowest prices, alongside Thai students.
What Muay Thai training costs
Training in Pattaya is excellent value, especially for longer stays where passes bring the per-session price right down. A rough guide for 2026:
A single group session - perfect for trying it once or training casually.
One-on-one with a trainer for an hour - the fastest way to fix technique.
Unlimited group training for a week - the sweet spot for a training holiday.
Unlimited training for a month, often the best value for long-stay trainees.
Budget a little extra for gear: hand wraps (฿150–250), gloves (฿1,000–2,500), shin guards and a mouthguard. Most camps sell everything on site. Train-and-stay packages at residential camps bundle accommodation and can work out very cost-effective for a longer trip.
Your first class: what to expect
Nervous about your first session? Don't be. A typical beginner class follows a familiar rhythm, and trainers are used to guiding people through it.
Training tips & staying safe
A few habits keep your Muay Thai trip productive and injury-free, especially in Pattaya's heat.
Build up gradually & hydrate hard
Start with one session a day, three to five days a week, and add a second only once your body adapts - Muay Thai is brutal on shins, hips and cardio at first. Drink far more water than feels necessary in the heat, eat enough, and take a rest day. Shin conditioning and soreness are normal; sharp pain is not, so stop if something hurts wrong.
Protect yourself & sparring
Always train with wraps and a mouthguard, and use shin guards for sparring. Tell trainers your level honestly and only spar when you're ready and with controlled partners - you don't need to spar hard to learn. If you've got an injury or health condition, mention it before class. Travel insurance that covers contact sports is worth checking.
The verdict: for most travellers, Sityodtong is the best all-round camp, Fairtex is the choice for a serious training trip, and WKO or a boutique camp is perfect for beginners. Whatever your level, Pattaya is one of the best places on earth to learn Muay Thai. Explore more in our full Muay Thai & Fitness guide, and recover with a well-earned Thai massage.
